Vision & Mission
Anethon's mission is to project current cardiovascular prostheses into the field of regenerative medicine. This is achieved by developing transformational protein-based device coatings that help the body accept these implanted devices as its own.
Anethon’s proprietary bioactive coating for in vivo autologous stem cell homing is used to recellularize state of the art, currently available, cardiovascular grafts, including blood vessels (arterio-venous shunts, peripheral and coronary vessels), patches and heart valves. These medical devices, by recruiting autologous stem cells from the blood, result in “living” prostheses, resembling the patients' own blood vessel or heart valve. Anethon’s concept of reviving commercially available prostheses, based on naturally occurring healing processes, combines the inherent longevity of the prostheses with the body’s natural maintenance and cellular composition. Consequently, the prostheses serve as a matrix to which the cells adhere, leading to major benefits for the end user in terms of growth, healing and remodeling potential, superior durability and patency of the implants. Aging of a growing world population leads to a dramatic increase in patients needing prosthetic devices, including large and small vessels as well as heart valve replacements. With the current approaches, results are still not optimal due to a plethora of complications, including amputations and even death of the patient.
